Hi, Nick here…I am currently enjoying the tortoise like speed of the going through the publishing process. I find myself regularly checking emails for that big day when someone says ‘yes ok I’ll publish Star Maniacs.’

I am 35, born in Nottingham, I currently live in York with my Partner Marie and 2 year old son Alexander. I am a published script writer so if you like Pantomime, check out Robin Hood at New Theatre Productions or at the British library.

I have had many jobs since I left school which seems a different life time ago. Here’s a list…Kilbournes Cafe Nottm, Bartons Canteen, ABC Cinema’s, ParkDale Primary School, Cassiobury Junior school Watford, Jorvik Viking Centre, Treasures House, Betterware and  the  National Museum of Science and Industry.

My writing is a hobby I have always enjoyed and I really want to see my work in print at least once in my lifetime, Vanity publishing though will NEVER be an option.

OLAF HEIRDRADA THUNDER HAMMER – Olaf is a Viking! Forming part of the Viking army defeated at Stamford Bridge he escapes with his daughter Frigga to Iceland where she desserts him for her lover Wulnoff. Olaf is large and Loud but a loyal member of the Star Maniacs team. Handy in a fight.

ALEX SORENSSON – Alex is a particularly bad Thief, in fact he is so bad he supplements his wage by working at Paul Perzonis perfect pizza as a delivery boy.  He is constantly delivering to a rather attractive red head but fails to notice her advances, thinking she only wants extra sausage. A bit of a coward he is constantly derided by an army of Vikings in his head.

HANNAH – Hannah is the red head who lives on pizza and wine. Her ife style is that of a wannabe top magazine writer but is stuck in a backstreet office writing for Pond life Magazine. Hannah can at times be a procrastinator, she never makes a decision and when she does, if it doesn’t involve wine she isn’t interested.

LENDAHL – Lendahl is an Archivist from the planet Jendan. Despite his vast knowledge he is made to work on the observation post of Jerton. A little irracible at times. Part of the jury at Venderguaards trial.

VENDERGUAARD-  At a young age Venderguaard fled Jerton for a life of adventure. Finaly settling on Blantagenous Seven he quickly rose up the ranks of the Blantagenous Coffee Corporation. Masterminding the destruction of his competitors he is finally arrested and imprisoned. While imprisoned he makes contact with the political group ‘Friend of Venderguaard League’ who give him co-ordinates for Earth. When he escapes he intends to steal a coffee plant and create a hybrid coffee drink to enslave the galaxy.

OLD MAN VASSILIAS- The Baron of Aristua is the sole survivor of a battle fought against the Gratzellites. He has produced a clone workforce to help harvest the tea and hopefully fight off the Gandin Rasco. An affable old man and infinitely wise.

Star Maniacs – The Great Galactic Caffiene fix- synopsis

May 15, 2009 at 20:00 (authors, Dirk Gently, Douglas Adams, fantasy, getting published, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, new writers, New Writers experiences, publishers, science fiction, Star maniacs, Terry Pratchett, Uncategorized, waiting to get published, writers feedback) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

In a galaxy controlled by the need for a cup of coffee it is the Coffee corporations who wield power and not the galactic parliament.  The greatest executives come together to create new and interesting flavours such as haddock and baked beans or banana. Finally the  lust for power leads to open warfare until only the coffee producing planet of Blantagenous stands tall.

Unable to keep up with galactic demand the chief executive, Venderguaard is imprisoned in a farce of a trial and swears his revenge.  He plots his escape from prison and masterminds another scheme of galactic domination.

The Jendans, Archivists and policemen, devise away to stop Venderguaard but when the mission goes wrong the three policemen they end up with are not quite what they had had in mind.

A Viking from the eleventh Century and two people from the twentieth, end up with the fate of the galaxy in thier hands, but as things develop it appears the fate of the humans was already intertwined with the fall of the galactic coffee industry. Hampered by Caberet killing plants the newly nicked name Star Maniacs blunder their way around a rather confusing universe.

The Worlds of Star Maniacs.

May 15, 2009 at 15:29 (authors, Dirk Gently, Douglas Adams, fantasy, getting published, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Martin Noble copyedit, New Theatre Productions, new writers, New Writers experiences, publishers, science fiction, Star maniacs, Strategic book Publishing, Terry Pratchett, waiting to get published, writers feedback, Writers Literary bureau) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

THE EARTH – Rotation 365 days, a day lasts 23 hours 54 minutes. Needs little introduction. It has five major continents, large oceans, deserts and polar ice caps. What parts of the panet its inhabitants can use, it shares very badly, especially if there is oil or religion involved.  Our main characters main home. Olaf is from eleventh century Norway, Hannah and Alex are from twentieth century England…York to be precise.

JENDAN SPHERE– A large planet with only one land mass. It is home to the Jendans who have no sense of adventure. They are the universal archivists, keeping extensive archives on all species. They glow different colours depending on their moods and excrete verbally giving rise to the phrase ‘you’re talking crap.’ The Jendans are governed by the house of rule headed by a president chosen on an electoral bases. Though preaching non-intervention they frequently interfere with the universe and so set up a galactic police force to help them control the rising crime in the galaxy.

BLANTAGENOUS SEVEN-Blantagenous is one of the seven sisters of the Blantageni system. The Blantageni are octopoidal and have a fetish for coffee fields. Strangely enough the Blantageni failed to evolve with their planet from a water world to one of temperate forestation. The temperate climate also contributed to the galactically famous coffee producing Starfields of Blantagenous. When the moon of Blantagenous Seven is destroyed by a missile the planet tilts on its axis plunging it into a permanent ice age

MEDINAH TABAR– During a  scientific experiment to unravel the secrets of the universe by dissecting Gluondia particles, the whole planet was shifted into a nearby dimension. The new dimension Medinah now inhabits is slightly out of sync with the rest of the universe, although visible nothing can be touched or taken from the planets surface. Medinah Tabar is also home to the Golden Sandstorm hotel, a fine six star hotel which many people visit on a timeshare basis.  One of the evening entertainments is based on gladiatorial games which usually involves those unable to pay the extortionate bills fighting for survival.

ARISTUA- The home of the Baron, known as old man Vassilias. It is a tea producing planet. The tea is farmed by a clone army of blobs known as Aristui. The Baron’s own people were wiped out in an interplanatary war. The most significant animal life on the planet are the lizard like Gandin Rasco who like eating the the Aristui with  a decent mug of tea.

PRISON PLANET GLANGON NINE- The planet is guarded by the sentinals, a mixture of wannabe dictators but mostly people who would rather be somewhere else. The main inmate they guard is Venderguaard, a Jendan (See Synopsis). They also patrol the museum which now has no visitors as its main attraction has become rather obsolete and of no interest. Occasionally privileged prisoners are allowed to visit as well as pig bird spotters.

Asteroid Jerton-This is an invisible observation post from which the Jendans record the development of the planet Earth. Its location is between the Earth and Mars. Jerton is used to house the Nemesis Thunder Hammer used by the Star Maniacs as it has a huge vortex in its centre which allows the larger ship to fit inside the much  smaller asteroid.
